Students's writing progress


An Idea for Keep track of student's writing progress. I used two" writing process folders for Lakeshore" because, I have two sections and I used pencils and flags to write my student's names.

After we read an informational text about "The penguins", we decided to do cause and effect eggs.

Coloring Writing and MUPO strategy

This week, my students were revising and editing their personal narrative composition. We used this strategy "Escritura Colorida" (Coloring writing) for revising and my students just love it. This activity help my students to see  how many details they were including in their composition. First, I modeled it for them. Then, they revised their partner composition using different color markers.

I used a student sample with a score 4 to model my student how to use this strategy. After that we highlighted the transitions words, dialog, figurative language, sensorial details, etc. 
 
We used CUPS strategy for editing, so I decided to translate it in Spanish and now our strategy is MUPO.

 I modeled my students how to use this strategy and used a student sample with score 2.

Procedural Text


After we learned about text procedural ,my students showed their best recipe.

Personal Narrative (Pre-Writing)

The first step in the writing process is Pre-writing. Here is the first graphic organizer "Choosing my seed story" . It help my students to focus in just one seed story. The watermelon represent "The Big Topic" and the students can brainstorm three or four seed stories and decided which will be their best story to write, by using the" I Love you strategy" ( I: information, heart: feeling and U: unique).

Thinking in "my visual students" I did this big watermelon and I laminated it. Therefore, every time that we start a new prompt, I use marker to write the big topic on the white rectangle and we use the black seeds to brainstorm potential seed stories and finally, we chose one and  we write it on the white seed. I like to use this Big watermelon  to model my students.
 
 
After modeling the two first steps of the writing process. I decided to post on the wall, so my students have it as a reference.

Back to School 2013-2014!!!
